Wheelchair pushing styles

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the death of my spouse. As these things go, one gets pensive and reflects on things. And I was remembering how she pushed her wheelchair. And oddly enough, a memory tingled at me, I thought to myself that I had seen someone pushing a wheelchair like that, not all that long ago.

I puzzled at it, but I couldn’t remember in what context.

Louise had been a paraplegic for nearly 35 years when she passed away. Her arms were in bad shape. When she pushed her wheelchair, she wasn’t quite elegant anymore, her pushes didn’t "flow". But she was determined. There was a certain energy in her posture, in the way she sat. And the more I saw images of her moving around in my head, the more I knew I’d seen it somewhat recently.

And then, it dawned on me. Not only had I seen it recently, only a few months ago, but it was someone I know!!!

This person happens to be another transabled individual, a writer on this site, actually: Sophie. So, there you have it Sophie, there’s always been something about the way you pushed your chair that picked at the back of my brain, and now, I know what it is. :)

Kinda cool

About Sean

Sean is transabled. His body image is that of an L2 paraplegic. He has been living pretty much 100% of his public life from a wheelchair for the last decade, but hasn't found peace of mind (and is unlikely to until he does become a para).
