Update on Dr. First’s new BIID study

As you may be aware, Dr. Michael First is conducting a follow up study to his original study of over 50 individual with Body Integrity Identity Disorder. If you were not aware, please read the information about it and participate! Dr. First is hoping to interview 50 individuals who have BIID, but who need an impairment other than amputation of (a) limb(s).
So far, there have been a total of 33 individuals who have contacted him. Eleven interviews have been conducted to date, with more coming up. These interviews take time, and Dr. First has other tasks to complete outside of this particular study. As much as we think that we’re the only (or the most important) ones and all priority should be given us, the reality of it is somewhat different :) So, if you have contacted him, but haven’t heard back yet, don’t despair, exercise patience, and know you haven’t been forgotten.
If this study evolves like the previous one, the last 15 or 20 participants will be difficult to find. Taking the risk of sounding like a broken record, if you need to have an impairment other than amputation and you have not contacted Dr. First yet, please do so. You can contact him by phone on 212-543-5524 (United States) or by email at mbf2@columbia.edu to schedule an interview time.
