Finding a cure: Wouldn’t it be ironic?

Wouldn’t it be ironic if by the time transability is better accepted in society, that they would have come up with a cure for spinal cord injuries? I can’t shake the feeling that is likely to be just my luck…

If all goes well, transability will slowly become better accepted (though I doubt it’ll ever be fully accepted). We’ll have a few shrinks that will actually work hand in hand with surgeons (there have been a few moves along those lines already). We’ll have a few “open” firsts, of people getting amputations, or SCI’s, or whatever. We’ll have a few options for treatment centers. This may well happen in my lifetime (I hope it’s not just wishful thinking, and I hope it happens before I’m falling apart from old age).

But with all the efforts directed at curing spinal cord injuries (thanks Chris…), they might just be able to find the elusive cure. Cure which may not help folks who became paras years ago, but that could be applied to newly injured patients.

And with my luck, I’d end up cured after I was finally injured. So, perhaps I’d be better off being a double leg amputee instead (with the added advantage of being able to keep my sexual abilities pretty much as they are now…

Wouldn’t that be ironic? Hmmmm

About Sean

Sean is transabled. His body image is that of an L2 paraplegic. He has been living pretty much 100% of his public life from a wheelchair for the last decade, but hasn't found peace of mind (and is unlikely to until he does become a para).
