Updating my GP About the Visit with the Psychiatrist

I went to see my GP today, for a shopping list of things that needed to be resolved. One of the things we discussed was how things were going with the psychiatrist he had referred me to a few months ago. So I gave him a short history of what had happened. His reaction was quite interesting…

I told him that I first saw a guy who was just a locum. Met this guy twice, three weeks apart. He left town on the day after my last meeting with him, his temporary contract being finished. He was the one who suggested the anti-psychotics. He thought I needed to be seen more, needed help. So he referred me to someone else in the clinic. That was the guy I saw last week. I told my GP a little bit about that visit too.

So my GP asked this latest’s shrink’s name. I told him. The look on my GP’s face was somethint else. Quite funny, really. He explained that part of the reason he had referred me to someone specific at the clinic was that he didn’t want me to see this particular shrink. Well, well… I’m glad that my bad vibes were not completely unfounded!

Not much my GP can do about it though. I’m going to see what happens when the shrink brings my "case" to the committee. Maybe one of the folks on the committee will have a burning desire to work with me. But if the end result is for me to see this particular shrink again, I will decline. There’s little enough hope for a positive result with any psychiatrist of psychologist, I’m not going to put myself in a position where I have to work with a man that doesn’t inspire confidence.

I hope things work out for you :) I’m glad your GP knew exactly who you were talking about.

I would assume that “locum” is perhaps a Canadianism referring to “locum tenens”, temporary help, and not “loco.”

Brice, it’s not a specifically a canadianism that I know of, just a medical term, yes, “temporary”, and has nothing to do with the Spanish “loco” :)
