Proper time

I was daydreaming about “doing it” while I was soaking in a bath. Not the sex kind of doing it, but rather the SCI one. And I thought, I’m nearly 40, if I finally get it now, isn’t it growing late for it?

Then I thought that it surely is better by 40 than by 60. Of course, if it turns out to be horridly different than what I wanted, perhaps 60 would be better, or never. But if it is good, then I suspect I won’t be able to get away from the thought that I should have done it a long time ago.

But then, perhaps we only do what we are ready to do, no more, no less. So if it’s right for me to get an SCI now, it wouldn’t necessarily mean that I was ready for it ten years ago, or 20 years ago. We often say that hindsight is 20/20, but on this one, I don’t think there would be a way to know.

About Sean

Sean is transabled. His body image is that of an L2 paraplegic. He has been living pretty much 100% of his public life from a wheelchair for the last decade, but hasn't found peace of mind (and is unlikely to until he does become a para).
