Now a few questions come to mind, but there is one in particular I would like to present here: “If you had the choice to become paralyzed, would you prefer a spinal cord injury (SCI) or a disease?” I understand it is a rather moot and rhetoric point, since we aren’t given the choice. But since the question was raised in a few conversations I’ve had, I thought to present it here.

For my part, I vote for an SCI. I believe I would prefer the intense pain and relatively short burst of adaptation of that over the long decay of a disease such as MS. Not to add that I think diseases can lead to a lot of suffering, a lot more than an SCI in the long run. Of course, this is my somewhat naive view of the topic, not knowing much about either SCI or paralysis causing diseases. Two people told me that they would prefer disease over accident. One mentioned the fact she thought that you would loose more dignity in an SCI than in a disease such as MS. I honestly don’t know who’s right. Actually, I do know there are no right answers…
