Hip Spica Experience

I’ve always wanted to spend a few days in a double hip spica. A few years ago, I did just that. With the assistance of my spouse, we put me in a plaster of paris double hip spica. I spent the weekend that way, and it was good. We didn’t have time/money to repeat the experience. Now, 5, 6 years later, I’d like to do it again. I was asked why I wanted to do so, and the person I was speaking with suggested it might be in an attempt to replicate paralysis.

I don’t actually think that’s the reason. I enjoy casting for many reasons, but I’ve learned a while back that it doesn’t really replicate paralysis. Sure, it stops you from moving far, but you still *can* move. And you can feel. And contrary to popular beliefs, a double hip spica in a sitting position just wouldn’t be the same… You can’t transfer or anything like that. Besides, being in a sitting cast like that for more than a few hours would be tricky, and there’s no point to go to expense and energy to cast only for a few hours ;)

To me, casting brings many things. For one, it feels safe to be so encased. Bit of an emotional haven. I also must admit that it has a very strong bondage element to it. Of course, when wearing a cast for a prolonged period, the bondage/sexy aspect can’t be sustained. So it comes and goes.

No matter what the reasoning behind it, I really want to cast extensively. This time, I’m planning to use fiberglass if/when I can afford it. Plaster of Paris was nice, but it takes too long to set properly, and it remains damp for a couple days. Sooo, I’m hunting for a good source of casting material, and hopefully we’ll be able to afford it sooner rather than later :)
