biid.org is no more

For the last several weeks, trying to load http://biid.org gets you to a netFirms warning page that the site has exceeded its bandwidth. At first, I thought it was a simple glitch. They happen. But as the days, then weeks, and now months are passing, I must accept that it’s not about to be resurected. But is it only the site, or is it the entire organisation?

For all the issues I have with biid.org (mainly, their refusal to include para wannabes, their "amp wannabe elitism" if you will), I recognise that they were the only group to have manage *some* advances in the field. Is the demise of the website a sign that the organisation is going kaput? I don’t know. I hope not.

I heard through the grapevine that one of the main leaders of it passed away, and he was perhaps paying for the site out of pocket. This could explain why the site went belly up.

Oh humm. I guess time will tell. Or won’t.

In the meantime, http://www.archive.org is a good way to access the pages as they were last updated, 24 September 2004. I’m considering lifting the information and providing it on my site until they get back on their feet (pun intended). Time will tell here as well. Or won’t! ;)

About Sean

Sean is transabled. His body image is that of an L2 paraplegic. He has been living pretty much 100% of his public life from a wheelchair for the last decade, but hasn't found peace of mind (and is unlikely to until he does become a para).
