Annoyance But Not Quite Incontinence

For the last few months, I’ve been faced with a quite minor incontinence issue. It’s more of an annoyance than anything else, really. But I was thinking about that, and the need to be paralysed and how it would involved "real" incontinence.

Nothing major, as I said. I am simply unable to clear the last little bit of wee in the "tube" when I finish doing my thing. I spoke to my GP about it and he says it’s not unusual, and that there’s not a whole lot to do about it. Fair enough.

I was describing to a friend what I have to do to make sure I don’t dribble, and the description was apparently quite hillarious, so I’m providing it for your amusement here: I have to effectively milk myself. Yep, just like you’d handle a cow’s udder, manually driving the liquid down! It works. It’s silly, it’s annoying, but it works. Most of the time. I am regularly left with a drop or three.

Just enough to be annoying.

And I’m sure that being completely incontinent would also be annoying. But the thing is, it would be an accompanying condition to being paralysed. As such, as annoying as it would be, it wouldn’t bother me so much.

At least, that’s what I’m thinking…

One hopes time will tell.

That’s interesting that you find it annoying. Is that part of the “all or nothing” deal you have mentioned before?

My minor incontinence is not even remotely annoying or bothersome to me. Quite to the contrary, I like it. However, it is rather different from yours, if it happens every time you go pee. For me it’s only about once every week or so at this point, but it’s substantially more than a dribble. It’s always a surprise too, which makes it more interesting. ;o)

@amanda, I’m sure it’s quite different

@Chloe, yes, there’s a bit of “all or nothing”, but there’s also that what happens with me is not enough to warrant solutions such as nappies. It’s not “enough” to be able to do more than putting up with it.

@Bryce, brilliant, thanks :)

I’m definitely with Chloe on this one. I am pleased with the degree of incontinence I already have and look forward to the complete loss of control that will accompany my SCI.

Btw, incontinence is easier to manage with a doctor’s support - there are a greater number of options available by Rx for genuine SCI patients.
