A fish out of water

Not so long ago, I ended up going to a public event, and for a bunch of reasons too long to explain here, I ended up walking. Boy, that was really uncomfortable.
I don’t recall ever feeling particularly comfortable in crowds when I was walking. But I might have been, I don’t know. I certainly haven’t had problems wheeling in crowds. Or rather, the problems I’ve had were logistical in nature. How to get from point A to point B without crushing three dozen toes on the way. Or how to find your way in a sea of butts, or boobs (since that’s pretty much eye level for me in the chair!).
But emotionally, I’ve not had issues as a wheeler in crowds.
So I’m at this event, perhaps 100 or 125 people milling around, with drinks and nibbles. I immediately felt uncomfortable. I was jittery, and driven to distraction with nothing at all. It was not a pleasant feeling at all.
I wished for my chair. I survived without it, obviously, but I am not looking forward to the next time I have to walk in such an event.
