Feature Film

Written by Peter on Saturday, January 16, 2010

Some of you may remember reading about the forthcoming feature film; written and directed by two members of this group (Gordo and me respectively), in fact some of you actually read the script.

We requested the screenplay and the posts about the feature be pulled for a variety of reasons notably non-disclosure and not least because Gordo and I do not (yet) want our BIID to be known in certain circles. However, that does not stop us from time to time letting you know how things are developing.

Known and trusted members can always ask Sean for the link to our website to find out the latest on the production (for the moment you’ll not find us with Google).

Anyway, my reason for posting today is to share with you some comments made by one of my colleagues that used to work with me in France. She is a national radio presenter and a writer. She knew nothing whatsoever about BIID and she is not aware that I have BIID and that I’m a Wannabe.

We’ve had some great reviews and comments on the screenplay but this one was somewhat different and quite interesting:

This is an uncommon and appealing point of view: "I want to feel strong and confident, but for some reason, I can’t feel fully independent unless I am a paraplegic. When I walk, it feels like I’m… Well, like I’m lacking potential. I feel like when I walk, I can only do so much in my life before I hit the ceiling. But when I live as a paraplegic, I feel like there’s so much left to do. And I feel PASSIONATE about everything."

This is a philosophy that appeals to carpe diem, that aims at realizing, in depth, the fortune of being able-bodied… or disabled, with a view to going beyond oneself, to go beyond what appears as hardship to the able-bodied.

Able-bodied people are easily overwhelmed by trivial things and do much about nothing, loosing the sense of beauty, blinded by superficial occupations

Paradoxically, being disabled could optimize one’s perception of life, even the essence of life, and could develop unexpected abilities in people.

An excellent topic and an approach rarely seen, an original point of view. Very much in keeping with our times…

Perhaps less in the sense ‘Grab Today, Tomorrow is Unknowable’ but more ‘Life is Short, Time is Fleeting’.
