Dominick Evans’ response to our response…
I just don’t have the heart to continue this debate. The thing is, if I’ve seen three mental health professionals, a medical doctor and a behavioral neurologist and been told by all and sundry “there’s nothing we can do for BIID”, and persevered ANYWAY and am still in therapy despite this negative reaction from the very community that I’ve gone to for help, and people like Dominick choose to state that “I don’t believe any of them have truly tried to change through therapy and medication,”…well, there’s nothing more to say, is there? What’s the point? Bah.
If any of you post a response to his latest post, let us know here when you’ve done it. We’ll see if he publishes it.

It seems pointless to respond to Dominick. He is a bigot who should know better. End of story.
What other type of “trying” is left? Seriously. It’s as if he thinks we haven’t tried to get rid of BIID. We don’t want it, we never asked to have it, we don’t like having it. What makes him think that we haven’t tried to find ways to get rid of it?
He just doesn’t get it. Either that, or he didn’t try either — didn’t try listening to us, that is.

He must still have server problems… Someone I know got a “Fail” error message when attempting to respond…
Right on, there’s no point trying to respond. I have to doubt whether he’s even for real. Is there any way to freeze him out of here so we can get on with productive, reality-based discussion?
I don’t think freezing him out of here would be a good idea. If we were to accuse him of being closed-minded, doing that would make us hypocrites.
Sean, perhaps you saw the comment I left? Just “fail”. As in - “Honey girl, you got it all wrong. And by the way, being anti-dev is so not your biggest problem.”
Looking back, it sounds a little like he thinks we WANT to remain this way, which is why we didn’t “try to do something” about it.
Here’s the thing… Who really WANTS to be in a wheelchair? Who really CHOOSES to be disabled? We don’t want BIID any more than he wants his disability, but as studies have proven, there is no known antidote for BIID. If there was, I’d probably take it.
As for the “choosing not to function” part of the post, I seriously wonder what he thinks of people with CFS/ME. Do they “choose” not to function either?
Like BIID, that condition’s causes aren’t fully known and there is no definitive cure for it; I’m by no means saying that CFS/ME is a mental disorder like BIID, but that condition affects a person to the point of not being able to function, just like what BIID can do.
There seems to be an elitist tone in his posts, like some conditions are inherently more “legitimate” or “real” than others. By viewing BIID in this light, I am sure he is also inadvertantly putting down other disabilities (like CFS/ME) as well, in some way.
Hi everyone
I’m currently researching for a documentary about BIID and it would be great to hear from anyone who may suffer from this disorder or who could help me further with my research. It’s an extremely interesting area that doesn’t seem to get much press and it seems people are suffering in silence so I hope you’ll feel it’s a good forum in which to air your thoughts.
