Paralympic Coverage

The Paralympics have started and…I’ve been totally clueless as to what’s going on. Sadly, NBC in the US has decided to dedicate exactly ZERO minutes to Paralympic coverage, siting that advertisers feel that there’s not enough public interest for them to invest in supporting coverage. Other countries (such as Canada) are devoting an hour or two here and there to coverage, but it’s nothing like the coverage the Olympics got. Happily, there are a few places online where you can watch certain events live, or taped highlights of other events. Below is a list of sites that are featuring coverage of the Paralympics. If you know of others, please feel free to post them here.

ParalympicSport.tv (works only in IE)
UniversalSport.com (I can’t get this to work, and suspect that it’s only available to users in the USA)
CBC Sports (Canada, video available everywhere)
BBC Sport (video available in the UK only)
ABC Grandstand Sport (Australia, video available everywhere)
TVNZ OneSport (New Zealand, video available everywhere)

The coverage in Britain is better than it’s ever been and we’re watching on a daily basis. It’s fantastic and I only wish I was there.

Someone suggested on a message board that perhaps the IOC should consider putting the Paralympics BEFORE the Olympics, because people tend to be burned out after two weeks of non-stop Olympic coverage (any more Olympic-like stuff would feel like overkill).

New Zealand always tends to have very good coverage of the paralympics because a lot of our achievements are sports based nowadays.

Actually Sophie, I hate to disagree here, but the paralympics coverage in New Zealand is abysmal. The NZ team won several times more gold medals in Athens than the olympic team, yet we get an hour only, late at night. They rabited on for five minutes on the news about the Australia rugby team, yet barely had 20 seconds about our gold and silver medal winners, burried as the very last item.
Quite frankly, it sucks

I’ve always noticed in the past they’ve had solid paralympics coverage in the weekend during the day Sean.
