Best Laid Plans

Well it seems the best laid plans are often the ones that get side tracked. As I had stated before I would look for a new, better chair in the spring or early next summer when I would be in more of a position of ‘needing’ one as my situation by then would call for a long term need for a chair.
As I write this missive I am currently sitting in my new chair. New to me but used to somebody else. It was on EBay and what can I say, I couldn’t resist. It called to me!
My new pretty is a Quickie GPV in turquoise. It has some mileage on it and some scrapes and dings but for the most part it is a beauty. I’ve had it for a week and, sadly I have not had time to have any fun with it. It is an inch narrower in the seat than the one I had before (I thought the other one was 20 inches, actually 18 inches). The wheel width is actually the same as my other chair, disappointing. The nice thing about my new beauty is that I feel more upright and comfortable than in the other chair where I often felt I was going to slide right out of the seat. I also like the footrest better. This one is a permanently attached one, no swing away removable stuff but the footplate is a flip up, although how I’m supposed to hang upside down to reattach the locking mech is beyond me. The footrest is closer in also which helps with the more upright feel. I also think this will help with the energy needed to propel myself wherever I need to go. The brakes are backwards to the one on the other chair a pull affair to lock instead of the push so that will take some getting used to.
The only disappointment I have with the new chair is that the tires and casters have seen better times. Both will need to be replaced before I get too much mileage on them. Sean has been kind enough to tell me which kind of wheels to order to replace the heavy style that is on it now (I’m not kidding the wheels when detached weigh more than the frame). So when I can I will be ordering clothing guards, and new wheels and tires, also thinking about getting the light up casters to replace the old ones. After all one must have some fun with the equipment one needs.
I’ll be reporting on adventures sooner or later. As it is the rest of the plan is going along as predicted. By November I will have myself ready to advance into the world I see myself living in. My new chair will just make it easier.
