A few weeks ago, Lane wondered on Twitter why nobody did anything about becoming a paraplegic. He mused it couldn’t be that hard. I suggest that it is, actually, not as straightforward as some people might think. The more I ponder the issue, the more complications I see.

Fibromyalgia is the only physical condition I have that is truly disabling. It considerably impacts how I manage BIID. There are also lessons I can learn from it. A lot of us seem to have impairments unrelated to our BIID. It is useful to contemplate how they interact.

Ever since I was a little girl, I believed others could read my thoughts. As a result, I learned to have my "private thoughts" only when I was alone. If someone entered the room, I would turn off the switch of my private thoughts. When they left, I was free to think again. While this practice has waned as I’ve grown older, I still am not as comfortable having my private thoughts around people as I am when I’m alone.
