When I read Gordo’s screenplay, some childhood memories came back. For which I am really grateful, because I’m a digger for memories. I miss the first ten years of my life almost completely, I don’t know where they’ve gone. The couple of sequences I did remember until now mostly had to do with situations in which I were embarassed. Anybody relate to that? ;-) But now I also remember two BIID-related sequences and I want to tell you a bit about them and how it all developed to where I am now.

A blog post that mentions Body Integrity Identity Disorder generated several comments, and these comments lead me to write this post. There are two main topics on the table today. First, the question of "control" of BIID. Then, the ugliness of people’s reaction about BIID.

Dominick Evans’ response to our response…
I just don’t have the heart to continue this debate. The thing is, if I’ve seen three mental health professionals, a medical doctor and a behavioral neurologist and been told by all and sundry “there’s nothing we can do for BIID”, and persevered ANYWAY and am still in therapy despite this negative reaction from the very community that I’ve gone to for help, and people like Dominick choose to state that “I don’t believe any of them have truly tried to change through therapy and medication,”…well, there’s nothing more to say, is there? What’s the point? Bah.

Dominick Evans, transgendered and disabled, is anti-Body Integrity Identity Disorder. Quite vehemently so. He blogged about his perspective on BIID as a Transgendered Person in a Wheelchair. I am responding here, because not only is he anti-BIID, but he’s also too chickenshit and petty-minded to publish comments that contradict him on his blog. He gets so much wrong it’s not even funny. I don’t expect everyone to support BIID, but in truth, you can’t "disagree" with it. BIID is real.

In his private blog, Rorshach wrote an interesting response to my post on BIID vs. Pretending for kicks. We had a friendly e-mail exchange, during which he graciously gave me permission to re-post his post here. Thanks Ror! In Defense of Pretenders continues »
