My Muscle Spasms

I have two entirely separate conditions, both of which are associated with muscle spasms: fibromyalgia and the minor SCI. As a child I had no idea that paralysis would come with muscle spasms, so I can’t honestly say they are an integral part of my BIID. Mine are much less substantial than those of my friends who have more significant SCIs. Consequently they by and large serve as pleasant reminders of things to come. Not always so pleasant…

A Day in KAFOs

We needed to get our car fixed, so I wasn’t going in to work last Friday. Alicia and I would be spending most of the day together, and it was a nice opportunity to satisfy my occasional desire to wear bilateral KAFOs. I wore my hot pink outfit. It is no longer a concern that anybody might look at my braces. It’s just irrelevant to me, though sometimes it can be entertaining.

A Little Help From My Friends

Ski season is only a couple of months away. Today I was hiking within the bounds of a ski resort (renowned for its adaptive skiing programs), looking for suitable cliffs. My mind wandered to thinking about how it is possible for me to be so comfortable at a party and talk about BIID, or not, as the occasion arises. I think it’s complicated; but it seems that friends are the biggest contributor to my comfort levels.

Change of Season

The long cold snowy Winter ends. The long hot dry Summer begins. I am always atuned to the seasons. The changes are conducive to a little reflection on one’s own change as Winter launches into Summer.
