In a recent series of comments on A comparison between transsexuality and transableism, which had 117 comments at the time of this writing, Nikki Sullivan asked several most interesting questions, and made many good points. I wanted to separate those questions and points and address then in a post of their own, as they are too important to "hide" them in a long list of comments.

Writing A BIID Article

I try and get my hands on as much of the newly published literature discussing Body Integrity Identity Disorder. I don’t think I manage to catch everything, but still, I get to read a majority of things. Over the years, I’ve been thinking there were a few things I’d like to see said, but haven’t seen in any of the literature. So I wrote my own!

Is BIID Neurological, Psychological, or Neuropsychological, and Does It Really Matter?

I wanted to title this post "It’s Christmas and I’m Still Not Paralysed", but that would do no good to my search results, and wouldn’t mean anything to really announce what I’m going to discuss… There have been several people in groups, on forum, and in email talking about the origin of BIID, and what kind of condition it is. This is a topic of long debates, and one I’ve already discussed in the past, but as views are changing, I thought it was time to re-visit it, and add my 2 devalued roubles for "posterity".
