GP Visit Number Eight

The first words from my GP (physician) were to compliment me about my upbeat Springtime appearance; a mid-calf pink skirt with matching ankle socks and a tantalizing amount of bare flesh peeking from the leg brace. Judging by the number of big smiles and "hellos" I got from strangers today, my facial expression must also have been matching my good mood.

I just got back from a road trip. I had not taken one in a year. It wasn’t clear to me ahead of time that I would have anything at all to write about it, since being in a wheelchair feels so normal now. However, there were a few amusing little anecdotes.

Unbreakable

My hands were still on the steering wheel; I was the right way up. Although there were holes in the windshield, none were in a spot through which I could see anything useful. The driver’s window was completely gone. I could see that cars were going by in the opposite direction, so that meant I was in the fast lane, parked facing oncoming traffic. After a while there was a shout from outside the car: "Are you okay?"

Annoyance But Not Quite Incontinence

For the last few months, I’ve been faced with a quite minor incontinence issue. It’s more of an annoyance than anything else, really. But I was thinking about that, and the need to be paralysed and how it would involved "real" incontinence.
