I’ve known Ian for 15 years, give or take a few months. That suddenly hit me on my way to work this morning. Fifteen years! He’s one of my longest lasting friends. While we don’t see each other very often, we do keep in touch via "teh intarwebs".

Ski season is only a couple of months away. Today I was hiking within the bounds of a ski resort (renowned for its adaptive skiing programs), looking for suitable cliffs. My mind wandered to thinking about how it is possible for me to be so comfortable at a party and talk about BIID, or not, as the occasion arises. I think it’s complicated; but it seems that friends are the biggest contributor to my comfort levels.

Nearly every transabled person will have vivid memories from their childhood that they can recount to you in relation to their BIID. Some peoples’ memories include relatives, friends or other people they saw regularly who had a disability of some sort and it resonated with them. I don’t have any of those sorts of memories.
