I’ve stated many times that I wish that Canada had a policy similar to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), because there’s no federal legislation that forces institutions and companies to make their services available to those with disabilities. Obviously, from my perspective, the most significant problem lies in physical access from a wheelchair.

As regular readers will know, I have been dealing with a "pretty bad patch" of BIID attack for a long time now. There are peaks and trophs, obviously. Yet it seems like my trophs are intense enough to be someone else’s peak. I don’t say this out of a sense of self-pity, it is a simple statement of fact. There have been some periods in my life since my teens where BIID has left me mostly quiet, if not entirely alone. But the more time goes by, the longer the BIID works on me, and the more intense these "attacks" get. And when I am in the grips of a strong BIID attack, I am quite disabled. I venture to say that I’m more impaired by BIID than I would be by being paraplegic.

I met an interesting man today who raised a good point, what is disability. This man had been a firefighter until one day when he was in a car accident and he was brain damaged. You wouldn’t know any of this just by looking at him but he had no long or short term memory. He had no sense of smell or taste and he can’t hear properly. He looks like any normal man joking around about every day things but in reality he’s wondering why the heck people are calling him ___ when he’s been told his name is something else????

I’ve now watched two episodes of Britain Missing Top Model (BMTM). There’s a couple more available on YouTube, and I’ll catch up soon. Before saying anything else, I must fess up - I follow America’s Next Top Model (ANTM). Not religiously, but our Tivo catches every episode and we watch it. And it is hard to watch one modeling competition without comparing it to ANTM.

I was looking through some random stuff a few weeks ago, and came across an article about a show in the UK called "Britain’s Missing Top Model." The premiere was scheduled for July 1, and basically mirrors the format of "America’s Next Top Model," but with a catch — the models all have some sort of disability. The first thing I thought to myself was: "BBC — don’t screw this up."
