I sprained my ankle last week. It was one of those dramatic “TV” moments where I was holding a packet of powdered milk in one hand, a glass jar of coffee in the other hand and suddenly my foot rolled over. With a loud scream I managed to roll over onto my side in slow motion discarding the coffee without even a scratch on the glass.

I need to be paralysed. I have Body Integrity Identity Disorder, or BIID. I believe that surgery is the only "true" solution for BIID at the moment. I need surgery to be available. But that doesn’t mean I don’t believe less invasive "solutions" shouldn’t be sought for BIID.

My partner, Alicia, is significantly more introverted than I am, so I usually end up going to parties by myself. There were two recently, a week apart. I had to decide what my disability presentation was going to be, and also what I was going to tell people.

Ah yes, you’re all going to expect big things out of this one, aren’t you? My disclaimer is that the real answer is 42; but that you knew already. Actually this was inspired by a rather profound comment from Tora. She said "It’s really amazing what changes when you are allowed to be yourself, don’t you think?" (Feeling Normal).
