What was the oddest reaction from friends/family?

Some “friends” have never spoken to me since. Others still ask “Are you still in that wheelchair then?” after more than ten years!

One of the oddest reactions was when I decided that a wheelchair was more practical than braces. Some of my older relatives took the view that I was somehow “giving up” on walking. The concept of an incomplete injury is not widely understood beyond those who have had experience or interest.

About Sean

Sean is transabled. His body image is that of an L2 paraplegic. He has been living pretty much 100% of his public life from a wheelchair for the last decade, but hasn't found peace of mind (and is unlikely to until he does become a para).
