Football woes

I was four years old. My father, who taught public high school, was president of the athletic association of the school and, as such, ran all the athletic events.
One Thanksgiving Day, a 16-yr-old football player was severely injured on the playing field, with a compound fracture of one leg. It was amputated AK. And he was magnificent on his crutches : handsome as hell, adept and beautifully coordinated . I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I wanted to be him!
He subsequently developed osteomyelitis in the stump and had to be re-amputated higher. And he "bounced back" wonderfully well. But the, unfortunately, he finally developed septicemia and died. Everyone cried, including me.
I also envied his popularity and the loving arms that had always surrounded him.
After that, as one 20th century conflict followed another and guys came back, sometimes as amputees, I went crazy every time a good looking young male among them showed up anywhere.
So I found myself both gay and an apotemnophile/acrotomophile.
