Comfort or Comformity?

by Z - 7 November 2010

I need glasses. Not very much, I have pretty decent eyesight I just can’t make out specific details (like letters or faces) from that far away. Most things are blurrier than they are with glasses, but I can still get along fine without them. I could probably drive without glasses if I didn’t need to read road signs.

Languages

by Z - 1 October 2010

I like languages. I found this out fairly recently, when I discovered Icelandic in January of this year. I kind of black out everything between then other than knowing that the stuffed animal is safe and I still hate it’s owner. I’m guessing nothing happened seriously, but the memory of a huge animal with angry teeth lunging at my 4 year old torso is still ingrained.

I grew up in a small town. I basically had the same class of 25 or so kids from K through six (4-12 y.o), with a handful of kids that varied. Every now and then one would come in with a cast or something, but never anything so bad as to need a wheelchair or even crutches. The worst thing that happened was a girl who broke her head open jumping off her dresser in kindergarten- which thankfully didn’t have much damage. So I wasn’t really exposed to differently abled people.
