Over the years I’ve had the chance to meet many people who had BIID and needed to be paraplegic. Gave a few of them "driving" lessons, that is, I took them out either in their own chair, or in one of my spare chairs, for a run around the block. Or I’ve provided advice, served as a "roll model" (pun intended) to many more over email.

My hands were still on the steering wheel; I was the right way up. Although there were holes in the windshield, none were in a spot through which I could see anything useful. The driver’s window was completely gone. I could see that cars were going by in the opposite direction, so that meant I was in the fast lane, parked facing oncoming traffic. After a while there was a shout from outside the car: "Are you okay?"

My Dad’s family isn’t really one worth noting. His natural parents were drunks and druggies who didn’t want him apparently and his adoptive family get along as well as a lion and a hyena would. They do what they have to to survive but in no way do they make any moves to make anyone else in the family feel loved. A family reunion was cancelled once because one night was adults only at a nice restaurant. The only person in Dad’s family worth noting is his sister, she and Dad are blood related and they were adopted together.

I’m facing an interesting Catch-22, where I’m doomed if I do, and doomed if I don’t. I have been using sleeping pills to deal with nightmare issues. But the pills may not be helping as much as I hope.

I had an appointment today with my GP’s nurse to enroll on a program to subsidise my doctors visits even more. To be elegible I had to have two or more problems and visit a doctor at least every three months… I qualified, yay :)
