In the last three weeks I have had three out of state business trips. Since my assistive device mode at work is a single forearm crutch, that is what I used on the trips. This is small potatoes compared with those of you who fly with a wheelchair, but I take baby steps. These were my first times flying with a crutch.

In talking with Silent a few days ago, she said that one of her biggest fears was to get caught, and I told her I’d had a few doozy stories of getting caught. She told me she’d be interested in learning of them, and I thought it might make an interesting post. And here I am, writing these things down. Problem is, I can’t really think of any wheelchair using events where I was caught, or nearly caught.

Things were slid about just out of view and I could feel them as they reverberated through my head. They were not really gentle at all. Then the front of my cervical collar was removed and I felt the cool air where I my skin was damp.

I have been supporting a lot of people over the years through this site, and through email. I play a role of cheerleader in a way. I tell people to accept themselves. When I think it’s appropriate, I suggest they might want to acquire a wheelchair. But if I were to be honest, I’d say "give up now, because you’re looking at a long painful stretch ahead of you".
