I have changed more tyres on bicycles and wheelchairs than I care to (or can) remember over the last three decades. It certainly is not a complicated process. But one can run into problems when doing even the simplest task that has been done many a time before. This post discusses some of the issues I bumped into when I attempted to change my tyres.

Leg braces were usually referred to as "calipers" when I was growing up in England. "Calipers" was the first word I learned to say. Oh alright, I’m just kidding, but I was pretty familiar with them at an early age.

I was short of ideas on what to write today. I have a few ideas lined up, but didn’t feel up to writing them. I asked Claire what she’d suggest as a topic. She said "People who have loads to say but never write". As she hasn’t been writing much lately, I asked her if she woudln’t feel guilty about such a topic. She said "yes, but I can live". And so, I would like to discuss this very topic. People, don’t shrug it off! Heed the call to participate…

While skiing in December 2006, I sustained a minor T10-T12 spinal compression injury resulting in some permanent nerve damage. I am happy to have a teaser, but at the same time frustrated not to have much more extensive paralysis and sensory loss.

On and off I’m asked if using a wheelchair makes me happy. It’s a difficult question to answer. Using a wheelchair allows me to not be so UNhappy. But it’s a bit of a curse too. And it seems I’m not the only one to feel this way amongst those I have been corresponding with.
