We were watching Extreme Makeover – the Home Edition. This one was about an LAPD cop who got shot while chasing a crook and ended up paraplegic when the crook shot her. They build her and her family a very nice home, as they usualy do. Part of the show involved one of the designers going to a local rehab facility and talking to a bunch of folks with spinal cord injuries. Many of them standing when they shouldn’t have been able to, or even walking. My partner said to me "I know what will happen to you. You’ll finally get your wish and the doctors will be able to fix you up and send you home in a week, walking".

My night was hell again – in a way. I was online, watching the Paralympics and partly chatting with different people until 8.45 a.m. Saturday morning. Me being awake again for over 30 hours was not due to nervousness. I think I broke through the wall of that somewhen between Thursday and Friday or Thursday during the day already. Since then I’m headed towards a weird kind of serenity. Unfortunately I am not quite at the point where I don’t care anymore.

Yesterday I was so angry with myself I decided something’s got to change. Angry, because I had to take quite a long ride on subway and walking to get something I needed urgently, I was already in a bad state before (pain) and I knew I’d feel rotten afterwards. But of course I couldn’t get myself to use the crutches.

Off all things I do as a wheelchair user, there is one that really sticks to my mind as being a pain in the butt, and that’s getting in and out of the car, and loading the chair in and out. It is unavoidable, and is not particularly fun. The novelty wears out rather quickly anyway.
