Because it seems so many people are interested in "wheeling adventures", I’ll tell you about my typical trip to the city library. It’s not an adventure for me, not anymore. It happens every week or two, and has been for the last several years. So there you have it, my trip to the library.

In a recent post to the Paradevo board, a member
threw down the gauntlet:
“I dont want to get into the whole pretenders/wannabes thing, but maybe
it would be a good thing if those people who have the privilage of owning wheelchairs
but dont actually need them could try and balance things out by donating some
money to help people who are completely dependent on them but would otherwise
never even see one. Like some kind of chair related karma or something, I dont
know, just go and help out if you can! :( “

I was recently asked if I wanted to wheel so much, why didn’t I just "go full time" and live my life from a wheelchair. The person who asked it was afraid I might get offended, but I felt it was a very good and fair question.

I have just found what is, I think, the first instance of the word "transableism" used in Journals! I am both excited that my word made it, finally, to these journals, and disapointed that the authors of the article in question seem to misunderstand the word.

For a while I wasn’t sure I was going to be doing any post for Blogging Against Disablism Day. I didn’t really know what I should say. It wasn’t until I established in my mind what the term disability really meant to me that something sprang to mind. Sean will probably already go over this (if he hasn’t already), but I personally think an impairment is the actual physical/mental/emotional problem, and a disability is what arises from the social and physical constraints as a result of your impairment.
