To those people who know me as a para, or think they know who I am, I offer my apologies. I apologise for having told them that I am paraplegic. I apologise for the breach of trust. And I ask for both forgiveness and hopefully, acceptance.

I wrote the following "Open Letter" a while back and submitted it to one of the big disability rights publications. They have a reputation for publishing thought provoking, "on the edge" material. I thought that perhaps this might be interesting for them. I challenged readers to rethink their attitudes and told them they couldn’t claim one thing yet refuse others similar claims. Of course, I never heard back from the editor, and it hasn’t been published. Sufficient time has elapsed that I do not believe they will use the material, so here it is!

The other day, I had to walk somewhere rather than use my chair. Not my choice, but it had to be done. And as I think I said elsewhere, Iâ??ve started wheeling a lot more than I had in the last few months. Walking felt very strange

Iâ??ve been recently contacted by a young gal who is transabled. She expressed relief at finding someone who shares her "stuff". Sheâ??s not weird. Or rather, sheâ??s not the only weird one out there. But the focus of her transability is vision, not SCI.
