I wrote the following letter and sent it to several surgeons who specialise in SRS. I’m not holding my breath. I don’t actually expect to receive any positive responses, if any response at all. I have sent a dozen letters via regular mail, and about three times as many by email. Experience with surveys and such say that a 5% to 7% return is good. So maybe I’ll get 2 or 3 responses, who knows? But if one doesn’t at least try, the answer is bound to be negative.

I will be starting a new job within the next few weeks. This is good, as it will allow me not to be so bloody broke all the time (so broke I can’t even pay attention!). It will also be good in that it shall take me out of the house on a regular basis, and give me the opportunity to meet and get to know other people. Finally, it’s going to be good because I’ll be able to wheel a whole lot more. Yet, after the first couple days of intense joy at the prospect of this job, I am now finding myself in a bit of a blue zone.

Thinking of the dog (see January 11 update) made me think something else. What if my partner was trying to place me in "enjoyable" situations where I am walking, in a strange way to make me enjoy walking more? Oh, I don’t really think she’s doing that, but wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere in the back of her mind, it hadn’t crossed her brain.

So, the other day, my partner asked me to walk the dog. This is something I can’t possibly do from the chair, as she’s just too full of beans, it would be a wild ride and might be dangerous for both me and the dog! The dog doesn’t get walked nearly as much as it should, but does get plenty of exercise by way of fetch with a ball in the yard.
