Letters and stupendous news from home

My mother is planning to come and visit with me in the next few months. She’s never done this since I’ve lived as a wheeler, in over a decade. The few times we met during that time, I had to travel to her, and leave my wheelchair behind. As she was discussing this trip more seriously, I emailed her and told her that she had to be aware that I use the chair in town, and that I wouldn’t be able to stop that just because she’s here. Her response blew me straight out of the water! Perhaps, just perhaps, there’s hope for the future.

Stryker frame

As I was laying down on the physiotherapist’s table this morning, I wondered if that particular experience may be remotely related to one I’ve wanted for a long time. I’ve wanted to be in a Stryker frame (see photo of a Stryker frame), beware it’s in Dutch) for a while. And for a few minutes, as I lay there, face down, unable to do anything else, I pondered that it may be somewhat similar.

A third response

Ah ha! Another answer. Another negative answer that is. But at least, it’s not being trashed and dismissed, they are offering considered answers, which is good. This particular doctor raises some good points that I’m sure anyone who’s been around this transabled "community" of ours has heard or seen before. But let’s see what he says.

So, I got my second response today. Negative as well, no great surprise. The surprise, however, comes from the reason for refusal. "Not my specialty", which was similar to the first response I received.

Amazing, a first response already

Yes, I was so surprised, I recieved a response to one of those emails I sent yesterday. It was a negative response, in that the doctor in question, based in the UK refused. But I appreciate him taking the time to respond.
